The right full body health checkup depends on your age, medical history, family history and individual risk factors. In your 20s, a checkup may focus on baseline health markers such as blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, depending on your risk. As you get older, your doctor may recommend additional screening for diabetes, certain cancers, bone health and other age-related concerns. There is no single set of tests that everyone needs annually. Your screening schedule should reflect your health needs and current medical guidelines.
Key Highlights
- Blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks matter at every age as they can stay silent for years.
- Indians develop type 2 diabetes earlier and at lower body weight. ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) advises screening from age 30. Some experts suggest starting at 25 for people at higher risk.
- Women should plan cervical screening from around 30 and mammography from 40, with a doctor deciding the schedule.
- More tests do not mean better health. Routine whole-body scans and tumour marker tests without symptoms are often unnecessary.
At Tesla Unipath Diagnostics, we have a NABL-certified (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) diagnostic center with 20 years of experience in Hyderabad and Telangana. Below are the tests for each decade, how often to repeat them, and which of our packages fit.
What Does a Full Body Checkup Include, and Why Does Age Matter?
A full body checkup involves blood tests, urine tests, heart tests, and, in some packages, even imaging tests. It is a test that checks your major organ systems when you are healthy. It is only a screening and not a diagnosis, and an abnormality found through screening must be further investigated by a physician.
It is important to note that age is an important factor since risks are different at each age group:
- 20s: establish your baseline health status and detect problems such as anemia.
- 30s and 40s: identify silent diseases such as prediabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol levels.
- 50+: get cancer screening and monitor your kidneys, heart, and bone health.
Full Body Checkup Tests in Your 20s
Your 20s are about knowing your normal. A baseline makes it easier to spot changes later.
Core checks
- Blood pressure, weight and waist measurement
- Complete blood count (CBC: red cells, white cells and platelets), which detects anemia (low hemoglobin) and infection markers
- Fasting blood glucose
- Lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides, the fats in your blood), done once as a baseline
Add if relevant
- HbA1c (average blood sugar in the last 2-3 months), if there is a history of diabetes in your family or your waist circumference is increasing.
- TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), if you have irregular menses, unexplained weight gain/loss, or constant fatigue.
- B12 if you are a vegetarian or vegan, and Vitamin D if you have bone pain or limited sun exposure. Comprehensive vitamin panels are usually not needed without a clear reason.
Health Checkup Tests in Your 30s
With desk jobs, irregular sleep patterns, and stress, your 30s are when silent metabolic changes can begin. This is also when you should start regular diabetes screening.
Essential screenings
- Diabetes screening: fasting glucose or HbA1c every 1-3 years. According to the ICMR, diabetes screening should begin at age 30, while a 2021 expert group headed by Dr Anoop Misra suggested age 25 for Indians. Indians tend to get diabetes at lower body weights, and hence, a normal BMI does not exclude diabetes.
- Lipid profile: every 3-5 years, earlier if there is a family history of early-onset heart disease. The emphasis should be on the LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol), since a normal total cholesterol level could be misleading.
- Blood pressure, weight, waist: annually.
For women
- A physician should perform a clinical breast examination.
- Pap smear or HPV test, as recommended by your gynecologist. Women aged 30 to 65 should participate in India's national screening program (NPCDCS).
The Tesla Master Health Check-up is designed for adults over 30. It covers sugar, lipid, liver, kidney, and thyroid tests, ECG, chest X-ray, ultrasound, and a physician consultation.
Preventive Health Checkup Tests in Your 40s
In your 40s, high blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol begin to affect the heart and kidneys, and cancer screening starts for women.
Core checks
- Blood pressure: at least once a year
- Blood sugar (HbA1c or fasting blood glucose): once every 1-3 years, or every year if you have borderline levels
- Lipid profile: once in 3-5 years
- Waist circumference: annually, because abdominal obesity increases the risk of heart disease
- Eye examination: once in your early 40s for screening of refractive disorders and glaucoma
- Dental checkup: annually
Heart evaluation
- An ECG is a reasonable place to start, since it records heart electrical activity.
- However, the 2D Echo, which is an ultrasound of the heart, and TMT, which is a stress test that measures heart activity under physical stress, would better fit individuals who suffer from either symptoms or particular risk factors like diabetes, high BP, or even smoking.
Cancer screening
- For women: mammography (low-dose X-ray of the breast) once every 1-2 years starting at age 40, along with a Pap smear as advised.
- For men: Consult with your physician about your requirement of PSA (prostate-specific antigen test). It is not mandatory for all patients.
Renal evaluation: Serum creatinine and urine albumin (albumin in urine) if you have diabetes or hypertension.
Next Steps
If you have heart disease risk factors, Tesla’s Heart Check Up (INR 4500) is very useful, as it includes a Lipid Profile, ECG, Electrolytes, TMT, 2D Echo, and Cardiologist consultation. Women should consider the standard checkup for women above 40 (INR 6500), which includes hormonal panels, Pap smear, and bone density assessment.
Full Body Checkup Tests for Adults Aged 50 and Above
Screening saves the most lives in this decade, especially for heart disease and cancer.
Yearly checks
- Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, and Lipid Profile
- Ophthalmology Exam Every 1-2 Years
- Glomerular Filtration Rate and Urine Albumin Every 1-2 Years
- EKG At Least Once (And Sooner If Symptomatic)
Cancer screening
- Colorectal (colon/rectum): yearly fecal test, or one colonoscopy (inspection of the colon through a camera) from ages 50 to 60. Some start at 45, while others encourage people with a history of bowel cancer to do earlier tests.
- Women: yearly mammography, plus Pap smear when required.
- Men: PSA done following consultation with your physician.
Bone health
- Bone Density Scan if you have risk factors or entered menopause prematurely.
- Vitamin D test if you are at risk for vitamin D deficiency.

Which Extra Tests Make Sense, and Which Are Often Unnecessary?
Start earlier or add tests if:
- You or a family member were diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, or cancer early on
- You are a smoker, tobacco user, or heavy drinker
- You have excess fat around your waist despite having a normal BMI
- You have high blood pressure, PCOS, or irregular periods
- You experience symptoms like excessive fatigue, chest pain, or unexpected weight loss
Often unnecessary in healthy people, according to Prof. “Dr. Sudhir Kumar” in The Week (January 2026):
- Whole-body CT or MRI scan regularly
- Testing of tumour markers without symptoms
- Full panel of vitamins
- Annual stress test without any symptoms
Tesla provides Whole Body Check-ups through CT (₹7,500) or MRI (₹10,000). These check-ups use advanced imaging techniques, and hence, they are suitable where a doctor recommends them. They are not a routine annual test for healthy adults.

Tesla’s centers operate from 7 AM to 9 PM, Monday to Sunday, and Tesla’s MRI and CT services operate 24/7. Blood packages are also available for home collection in Hyderabad.
Which Extra Tests Make Sense, and Which Are Often Unnecessary?
- As per instructions: Blood glucose and lipids must be done on an empty stomach, for which fasting for at least 8-12 hours is required. Water is allowed. Tesla's lab will provide you with the exact fasting time for your package.
- Morning test: The easiest test, and the lab has 6-8 AM slots for fasting tests.
- Dinner: Don't have a heavy meal and avoid taking alcohol the night prior.
- Take along with you: Take your medical history record and a list of medications with you. Ask the doctor beforehand about omitting medication.
- Ladies: Mention your menstrual cycle while booking. Usually, a Pap test is not performed during menstruation; the lab can guide you further about mammography.
In a nutshell
The right checkup depends on your age, genetic predispositions, and lifestyle. Start by establishing a baseline in your twenties, move on to diabetes and lipid screenings in your thirties, and then add heart and cancer screenings in your forties. Perform these tests annually after fifty. Take your results to a physician familiar with your medical history.

FAQs
What should I do if one of my results is abnormal?
An abnormal result by itself is not cause for alarm; it is cause for further action. Screening tests are used to identify potential issues, and your physician will want to repeat the test or conduct another test to confirm the findings. Many abnormal results can be corrected through lifestyle changes. Keep copies of your results.
Can a full body checkup detect cancer?
Not all cancers. Screening tests are available for some cancers, for example, mammography for breast cancer, Pap smear or HPV test for cervical cancer, and stool tests or colonoscopy for colorectal cancer. Tumor markers in blood samples from asymptomatic individuals cannot be used as a screening test. If you have any symptoms, see a doctor and don’t wait for your next routine checkup.
Can I get my entire health checkup done through home collection?
Only the blood-based services. The home collection service by Tesla comprises almost all blood tests and health packages. But for services like X-rays, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI, one needs to visit the center. Similarly, for ECG, TMT, and 2D Echo, one needs to visit the center. However, home collection is available in select areas with a nominal convenience fee.
Is a full body checkup safe during pregnancy?
The standard packages are not meant for pregnant women, and some of the elements like X-ray, CT Scan, and Treadmill Test are generally not recommended unless advised by a doctor. Pregnant ladies must go through antenatal care. Tesla has a different Antenatal Profile with scan (₹3,520).
Do I need a doctor's prescription to book a health checkup package?
In case of routine screening packages, booking is possible directly. In case of special scans or if you have a diagnosis, check the requirements with the center. In any case, share the findings with a doctor who knows about your medical history.
